When World War II broke out in 1939, the watchmaking industry in Pforzheim suffered heavy losses, all watch factories were razed to the ground by the Soviet army, and the Welsh workshops were also forced to close down. The fifth-generation Richard Wells, with the 'precision watchmaking' craftsmanship inherited by the family for centuries, led the watch industry to regroup after the war, and he reinvigorated the family industry.
